this is unsurprising

Your Linguistic Profile:

50% General American English
25% Dixie
20% Yankee
0% Midwestern
0% Upper Midwestern

What Kind of American English Do You Speak?

Until you consider that my linguistic habits haven't really changed much since I moved to Massachusetts...

(thanks to stuntviolist)

Well, I got 0% midwestern and only 10% upper midwestern and I lived in Ohio and Kansas till I was 18, so I don't think it's a particularly accurate quiz... (and I'm a bit of a snob from reading too much academic dialect work, sure...)

I guess it shouldn't surprise you that my profile is identical to yours, with the addition of 5% Upper Midwestern. Yours doesn't add up to 100%. You must have skipped that question. :-)

I got 35% dixie, 35% general, 25% yankee, 5% upper midwest.
There were a number of questions that were reall toss-ups for me. I went back and changed all of those to the other, probably equally "correct", answer. That yielded 49% general, 30% yankee, 25% dixie. It seems the test is a bit too sensitive, not surprising for one that short, and scores don't always add up to 100%.

Your yankee father.

I already tried to post this comment, but somehow I failed. I will persevere.

Ahem.

I got 70-15-10-5-0, which makes me so proud -- look, ma, I got 10% Dixie! It's because I still say y'all, even though my claim on it is very tenuous. And I guess there must have been another question I Dixified, but I don't know which one.
